Personal Injury Clinic Launches To Provide Free Advice To Local Communities

A personal injury Law Clinic has opened in South London to provide free advice to local communities, while providing valuable practical experience for law students.

Law firm Hodge Jones & Allen Solicitors is working with London South Bank University (LSBU) to jointly run the Elephant and Castle-based law clinic, to provide free legal advice and assistance to members of the public who are otherwise unable to access justice.

LSBU law students, meanwhile, gain practical development opportunities through their degrees, benefitting from the expertise and leadership of Daniel Denton, Personal Injury Partner at Hodge Jones & Allen Solicitors, who brings over 20 years’ experience representing clients with significant and often life-changing injuries.

Clients can access the service by first attending one of the Clinic’s face-to-face drop-in free legal advice sessions. The Legal Advice Clinic runs several drop-in sessions per week during termtime.

The initiative further enhances the employability of students, exposing them to real-world cases whilst having a significant positive impact on the local community by supporting individuals in need.

LSBU has a well-established law school, which recently celebrated its 50th anniversary. The University has served South London and beyond for over 125 years, providing vocationally relevant, accredited and professionally recognised education. It currently ranks third in the world for reducing inequalities in the prestigious Times Higher Impact Rankings. The University has strong links with employers and courses are applied, accredited and offer placement opportunities.

This partnership between LSBU and Hodge Jones & Allen Solicitors underscores their combined commitment to social justice and education and represents a significant step forward in bridging the gap between legal education and practical application, preparing students to enter the legal field as competent, experienced professionals while fulfilling a crucial community service.

Catherine Evans, Senior Lecturer and Director of the Legal Clinic, LSBU, said: “I have known Hodge Jones and Allen Solicitors for many years stemming from when I was in practice as a specialist housing lawyer. The firm have an outstanding reputation for providing a high-quality service to the community. We’re very pleased to partner with their Personal Injury team and be to part of this very exciting initiative.”

Daniel Denton commented: “We look forward to working with London South Bank University. It is important to continue raising the visibility of important personal injury claims and making them more accessible. The exposure to real-world cases will be invaluable to students.”
