Ken Brough, senior catastrophic and serious injuries solicitor joins HJA Personal Injury Team
Ken brings with him 25 years’ experience, and expertise in fatalities, and catastrophic and serious injuries
The Personal Injury team at London based social-justice law firm Hodge Jones & Allen, has appointed industry heavyweight Ken Brough as a Partner. Ken joins the team from his role as the Joint Head of Slater and Gordon’s personal injury practice in Birmingham.
Ken specialises in supporting clients through especially risky litigations, where people have suffered catastrophic and serious injuries, as well as fatalities. He is an expert in providing firm and realistic legal advice for individuals, and their families, who have experienced traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, or multiple trauma. He regularly deals with claims that require a strong legal nerve, pushing for justice with cool professional calm and great human sympathy.
Ken deals with every case proactively, invariably seeking the earliest and most effective rehabilitation for seriously injured clients and their families. He has an empathetic and down to earth approach, keen to ensure that clients are given clear and comprehensive advice in plain and jargon-free language. He treats each client’s case according to their own particular needs and circumstances.
Legal 500 has described Ken as “…a very experienced solicitor who has great judgement…a confident manner and is great with clients. His experience is invaluable in difficult cases…he offers a clear- headed analysis in the most pressing of situations.”
Over the years, Ken has represented clients and families in lengthy cases, involving complex medical evidence. In 2019 he worked on two particularly complicated cases, one involving a 23 year-old woman who had been hit by a car at a pedestrian crossing, rendering her paraplegic, and another involving a child whose mother had died in front of him in a car accident. In both cases, Ken’s priority was supporting the clients throughout the entire legal process, pursuing justice for them even when the legal case became increasingly delicate and high-risk.
While in Birmingham, Ken helped energise and double the size of Slater and Gordon’s PI team, leading it to a stronger commercial position, and increasing caseloads and fee income. He has experience in managing referral contracts and securing catastrophic injury work through his developed referral network, a valuable background to bring to HJA’s partnerships with charitable organisations and support groups, including: Headway, the Child Brain Injury Trust, Brake – the road safety charity, Sudden Bereavement Group and the UK Acquired Brain Injury Forum.
Leticia Williams, Partner and Head of Personal Injury said: “We are delighted to be welcoming Ken to the team. His expertise and legal acumen is all the more an asset because of his compassionate and proactive approach to every case he undertakes. He is a collaborative lawyer, who builds excellent relationships with his clients, but has a steeliness and robust approach where needed. He’s the perfect fit for HJA.”
Ken said: “Both HJA and Patrick Allen’s reputation for defending the rights of those who are often marginalised in our society and may not have the easiest routes to justice and legal redress has always been inspiring to me. It is a pleasure to be joining the firm; I am looking forward to working in a firm where clients are at the heart of everything, and to begin working alongside dedicated and spirited individuals who are constantly leading the way and setting new benchmarks in our profession.”
