Statement from Jocelyn Cockburn to mark the 25th anniversary of Stephen Lawrence’s death
Jocelyn Cockburn is a partner and joint head of the civil liberties team at London law firm, Hodge Jones & Allen. She has been Mr. Lawrence’s solicitor since April 2004, when he instructed the firm to challenge the decision made by the Crown Prosecution Service that nobody would face prosecution for the murder of Stephen. This decision was later reversed and two of the suspects, Gary Dobson and David Norris, were convicted of his murder on 3 January, 2012 at the Old Bailey.
Jocelyn says: “This is a momentous milestone for my client, Neville Lawrence, and I am humbled by his message of forgiveness to mark the anniversary of his son’s death.
“Neville can feel proud of what he has achieved in the intervening years and I will continue to support him through the Undercover Policing Inquiry and any issues that come out of the investigation into Stephen’s death. My thoughts are with him at this sad time.”
