“Make air pollution a priority”: A Letter to Boris Johnson from Rosamund Adoo Kissi Debrah
Rosamund Adoo Kissi Debrah writes to Boris Johnson ahead of the State Opening of Parliament on 11 May to urge him to prioritise air pollution management in the government’s new legislative agenda
London, 5 May 2021 – Rosamund’s letter to the Prime Minister, sent earlier this afternoon, follows the Coroner’s PFD Report issued on Wednesday 21 April in which he called upon the government to take responsibility in tackling the UK’s lack of legally binding air quality targets and improve public awareness and appropriate doctor training.
Rosamund is now seeking to engage the Prime Minister on the Coroner’s recommendations in time for the State Opening of Parliament and Queen’s Speech on 11 May when the government’s legislative agenda for the next parliamentary session will be set out.
She asks the Prime Minister to meet with her before then and commit to adopting the Coroner’s recommendations in order to prevent avoidable future deaths, ensure the Queen’s Speech contains a commitment to adopt the recommendations, and to work with her on improving the Environment Bill to focus more on public health.
