Successful settlement for electrician who fell from scaffolding
Usheena Patel, Associate in Hodge Jones & Allen’s Personal Injury Team has recently settled a personal injury claim for an electrician, sub-contracted to work on the building of flats in South East England. Usheena’s client was injured when scaling a ladder that was not tied to the scaffolding. In addition, there was no one available to be at the foot of the ladder. He slipped and broke his leg. Surgery was required to insert metal plates and screws.
Commenting on the case Usheena said: “Health and safety guidelines were not followed. Employers must always remember that they have a duty of care not only to their people but also to those they sub contract work to. The consequence of not following health and safety guidelines is often injury which could have been avoided. My client was off work for many months so the accident had a huge impact on his life and personal circumstances for quite some time.”
In my experience, accidents at work happen all too frequently and when they do employees are not always clear on their rights and the route to ensure full rehabilitative care and financial compensation.”
