Unanimous Not Guilty Verdict In Wounding With Intent To Do Grievous Bodily Harm Trial
After a 5 day trial, Mr K was acquitted of wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm (really serious harm).
The charge dates back to 30 January 2022, where the complainant sustained significant injuries. Mr K provided his account in interview in the absence of a solicitor before Ghislaine was instructed in his case, professing his innocence. Mr K gave evidence during the trial, explaining he was not the person in the CCTV who could be seen assaulting the complainant. There were significant issues in the complainant’s account including a motive to get Mr K in trouble as well as no positive DNA evidence, telephone or location data linking Mr K to the assault.
On 01 July 2024, the jury at Woolwich Crown Court returned their unanimous verdict finding Mr K not guilty of the allegations just hours after they had retired.
Ghislaine commented on the outcome of the case: “I am very happy that after years of this matter hanging over my client’s head, he was able to speak his truth and the jury saw through this case. Although nothing can compensate him for the time he has lost and impact these proceedings have had on his mental health, I hope that he can now start to move forward with his life and put this difficult time behind him.”
