Breaking The Bias – Vanessa Friend Speaks to The Law Society Gazette About Her Personal Journey into Law

Vanessa Friend, Partner in our Family Law team appeared in The Law Society Gazette to tell the story of her personal journey into law for International Women’s Day. Writing for The Gazette’s Women in The Law section, Vanessa sought to tell her story and inspire future lawyers by noting how, in her experience, discrimination, bias and stereotypes are not necessarily what people believe of you, but what you believe of yourself.
As a mixed race mother of two who utilises hybrid working, Vanessa speaks candidly about diversity, fighting the “sense of not belonging” and finding an inclusive working environment, such as Hodge Jones & Allen, where 66% of Partners are female compared to just 35% nationally.
