The Inquiries Act 2005 allows a government minister to set up a public inquiry where it appears to them that particular events have caused or may cause public concern.

A public inquiry can conduct an investigation across a range of different agencies. A public inquiry ensures lessons are learned.

Where a public inquiry is established under the Act, individuals may be granted the right to participate in the inquiry as ‘core participants’.

We benefit from a wide range of legal expertise across the firm and are able to represent individuals in relation to varied public inquiries.

PUBLIC INQUIRY: Our human rights lawyers were instructed by almost forty residents of Grenfell Tower, the surrounding walkways and local flats to represent them at the public inquiry into the Grenfell Tower fire in June 2017. Our human rights lawyers have worked closely with the housing team to prepare proposed terms of reference for the inquiry, to draft core participant applications and to advise our clients on the inquiry process.
