About Shyan MacTavish
Shyan joined Hodge Jones & Allen as a qualified solicitor in January 2023 and was promoted to Associate. She completed her training contact at a Central London law firm, where she gained extensive experience in criminal defence and extradition. She completed her Police Station Accreditation in 2022 and Magistrates’ Court Duty Qualification in 2023.
She regularly represents clients in the police station and at the Magistrates’ Court. She litigates both Magistrates’ Court and Crown Court cases. She is passionate about ensuring that clients are thoroughly supported and advocated for throughout their case with the police and in court.
Shyan has advised and represented clients in a variety of extradition matters both at the Magistrates’ Court and on appeal to the High Court. She has contested the extradition of clients to Part 1 countries (including Bulgaria, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia and Spain) as well as Part 2 countries (including Albania, Australia, Canada and the United States of America). She has successfully prevented the extradition of clients on human rights, procedural and technical grounds.

Shyan studied Psychology in Canada and completed an undergraduate degree in this discipline before relocating to the UK to study law. This background has fostered a particular interest in representing individuals who have vulnerabilities, suffer from mental health conditions or have been subjected to exploitation.
