Post Office Scandal: Sub-Postmasters Deliver Closing Statements as Inquiry Nears Conclusion
Today, the Post Office Horizon IT Inquiry will begin hearing closing statements from Core Participants about the evidence heard throughout the Inquiry, which was established in 2020.
Hodge Jones & Allen represent 17 Core Participants and will be the first to make their closing statement. Lawyers for sub-postmasters represented by other firms will also have the opportunity to make oral submissions today, as well as those acting for the National Federation of Subpostmasters and UK Government Investments.
Tomorrow, the Inquiry will hear from the legal representatives of Post Office Limited, Paula Vennells, Fujitsu Services Limited, Gareth Jenkins and the Department of Business and Trade.
The closing statements will mark the end of the Inquiry’s hearings, which have examined what has been described as the greatest miscarriage of justice the UK has seen. The Inquiry will continue to analyse the evidence and the Chair’s final report will be published in due course.
Mike Schwarz, Head of the Public Inquiry (Crime) Team at Hodge Jones and Allen Solicitors says: Nothing can put our clients, or other sub-postmasters / mistresses, back to where they were before this scandal. But the Inquiry is an important step in the process of exposing the truth of what happened and establishing responsibility.
Aneka Thirurajah, Deputy Head of the Public Inquiry (Crime) Team at Hodge Jones and Allen Solicitors says: After almost three years of listening and reviewing evidence about the cover-up and deceit that has spanned over 20 years we look forward to hearing closing submissions and receiving the Chair’s report in due course. We also welcome the police investigations into key witnesses that have given evidence during the course of this Inquiry and who may have contributed to the scandal.
