ONE PUNCH AWARENESS WEEK: 18th to 22nd September 2023
The disastrous outcome of throwing just one punch is being highlighted once again this week.
One Punch Awareness Week is held annually and is organised by the charity One Punch UK.
The charity was initially founded following the death of Kristian an 18-year-old, to raise awareness of the devastating effect that one punch can have on both victims and their families. Kristian was punched on the head during a night out in September 2010, and as a result sustained a catastrophic brain injury. He sadly passed away in 2011.
You can help raise awareness by wearing something red or blue to help raise funds for the charity, or by getting involved in the subject by using the following hashtags:
#WearRedOrBlueDay
#OnePunchAwarenessWeek
This September, alongside One Punch Awareness Week, there will also be a focus on secondary school children.
There are a range of different organisations that support One Punch Awareness Week, including the Brain Injury Group who support both brain injured individuals as well as their families. This includes but is not limited to assisting them by giving advice on bringing a claim via the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA).
CICA is a government funded organisation that provides compensation to innocent individuals injured as a result of a violent crime. Our specialist team of solicitors have extensive experience with dealing with such matters and the CICA.
If you have been a victim to a violent crime, and have suffered a serious head injury, our dedicated team of Personal Injury Solicitors here at Hodge Jones & Allen can point you to the right direction and guide you or a family member on how to go about making a claim through the CICA. They will be able to assist with completing any initial paperwork to commence your claim, provide advice on awards/compensation as well as on the appeal process.
