Estate planning considerations for those with no children
According to a joint report from the Beth Johnson Foundation and Ageing Without Children, 1 in 5 people over 50 don’t have children and by 2030, there will be 2 million people over 65 without children.
As a law firm providing estate planning advice to people of all ages, we are starting to see more and more people without children contact us about planning their estates.
These discussions not only include considerations about who individuals will leave their assets to but also who should step in to make decisions on their behalf on financial and health matters if they are unable to do so. These are areas that many people without children do not consider until it is too late.
At Hodge Jones & Allen we’re trying to promote greater awareness of the importance of estate planning for people without children. As part of this we have created a short, six-question survey to help us better understand the awareness levels amongst childless people when it comes to estate planning and later life.
All answers are anonymous and will be used to illustrate articles on estate planning. Please only respond to this survey if you don’t have children and are planning not to have any in the future and live in England or Wales.
Please note that this survey has now closed.
